About Me
I'm Brendan
A copywriter based in the historic city of Nottingham, England.

Forget the stereotypical writer avatar.
My copywriting journey stemmed from combining my lifelong love of words, my years in B2B sales and my desire to make a difference independently.
I'm fascinated by what makes people tick, and working in sales couldn't have given me a better education in human psychology. To me, it was always like fieldwork. You had to learn and adapt your methodology according to your results i.e. how successful you were in persuading (not convincing) someone to take a desired action.
Now, I combine my love of words with my experience in persuasion psychology to write copy that helps businesses convert their audience into customers.

Why do words matter?

I'll give you an example.

Let's look at the difference between “You should” and “Have you considered?”.

How do you feel when someone tells you you should do something?

Saying “You should” to someone triggers resistance and a need to regain their autonomy. e.g. “Yeah but.. (defence of their position)”.

On the other hand, “Have you considered..?” will result in two things:
It may result in someone pitching the idea to themselves. “Yeah, I've been thinking about it. I know it’s cheaper in the long term and more efficient”.
Then you can get the most valuable piece of information; the real reason behind them not taking action. “I’m just unsure whether X will result in Y”.
Or it piques their curiosity and they want to learn more.

Both phrases introduce an alternative option to someone, both have wildly different outcomes. Words matter!
Life beyond the keyboard
You'll most likely find me doing something related to fitness when I'm not writing.
Completing the London Olympic Triathlon in 2022 was a proud accomplishment, and I've kept ticking over with some half-marathons since. It's all about overcoming that inner voice that tells you to quit. We all hear it, but you don't have to listen!
And it's not just the English language I love (I'm currently learning Spanish). For me, you obviously learn more about another language, but language learning sheds new light on your own language too!

My mission
Ultimately, I'm passionate about helping people take control of their lives. Yes, some things are beyond our reach, but there's a lot we can control. That's why I'm drawn to working with clients who make a positive difference in their customers' lives.
So, that’s me. As much as I could put across a couple of pages anyway.
